The profession of the writer was a cornerstone during the heyday of Egypt during the last 3000 years before Christ. Only a few people learned to write, and the corresponding training was demanding. Writing was considered more than simply knowing characters and words. Writers stood at the center of every organization. Often they hold top positions. They were consultants to the kings. The office of the ``Secretary of the Interior'' was regularly assumed by a writer. Often the Pharaohs themselves were writers by education.

The extraordinary achievements of this epoch still impress today. Pyramids are the last existing of the seven wonders of the antiquity. They were the result of superb teamwork. Up to two million components were assembled. Building pyramids required great engineering and management capacities and presupposed coordination skills for thousands of contributors.

A consultant to the king had analytical and visionary capacities. He was a person of trust. An experienced consultant managed men competently. With pedagogical skills, he made them to the fulcrum of his activities, walked ahead or stepped back, as required by the situation. ``Your ear should not be oriented towards the door - to listen; you are devoted to the art of writing, be modest.''
